After rocking all over their home country, TakaLaiton a young thrash metal band from Lappeenranta, Finland is now touring around Eastern Europe. Since we don’t really get to see many Finnish bands to play indoor in Sibiu, International Radio Deutschland tried to find out more about these northern metalheads.

IRD: We tried to translate the name of your band in English but I think google translate is trolling us (haha). So what does TakaLaiton mean?

TakaLaiton: TakaLaiton is a term in a Finnish version of baseball, and it means hitting the ball too far over the field. It also means a messy number two in the toilet and it’s a term for doggystyle… if you know what I mean :)))

IRD: What is the history behind TakaLaiton?

TakaLaiton: TakaLaiton was founded in 2014. Pasi and Janne were playing in a same band, and in the same rehearsal space… Juho was playing in a different band. The rehearsal space was full of mold and the roof was about to collapse, pretty metal eh? They formed a band “Laiton Pizza” which translates to “Illegal Pizza”. “Laiton Pizza” started to play covers of songs and played few gigs. After that, they started to work on their own songs and changed their name to “TakaLaiton”. They wanted to keep the word “Laiton” in the name of the band.

IRD: What inspire your music?

TakaLaiton: Inspiration comes simply from the joy of making music. Also beer, satan, and sex has a lot to do you know :))))))))

IRD: Have you visited Eastern Europe before this tour?

TakaLaiton: Janne has Been in Slovakia and Poland, but the rest of the band have not been in Eastern Europe.

IRD: Three of your gigs are placed in Romania… Transylvania… How do you feel about that?

TakaLaiton: Transylvania is fuckin’ cool! Ain’t nothing so metal like vampires and shit. We’ve always wanted to be there. And all the legends from this place just make it more interesting and fascinating, So it’ll be damn cool to play there. And Iron Maidens “Transylvania” is an awesome song by the way!

IRD: How do you balance your music with other obligations?

TakaLaiton: Sometimes it’s quite challenging to match the rehearsals when all of us have different shifts and so on. But we’ll always figure out a day off for the gigs one way or another.

IRD: What is your message for the Roamnian metalheads?

TakaLaiton: Get drunk and keep on thrashin’. And you’d better  warm up your neck!
